Sri Lankan Leader closely monitoring General Fonseka's statement

Sri Lankan Leader Mahinda is paying special attention to see if the statement due to be made by former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka in connection with the White Flag case on May 4 would confirm allegations leveled against the country by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's panel of experts, a senior government minister said.

He said the Leader Mahinda has assigned several opposition politicians to find out the Fonseka's and his wife Anoma Fonseka's sentiments.

Leader Mahinda has also launched a campaign to get the mahanayake theros to request General Fonseka not to make any statements in the White Flag
case that could be damaging to him, the security forces and the country.

The minister said the President was aware of the request made by several opposition politicianss to release Fonseka from prison to justify the holding of massive protestss in the country against Ban Ki-moon's panel report. However, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has objected to releasing War Hero Fonseka.
