SPIES AND A FOREIGN POWER


An ex-MI6 agent, Daniel Houghton, is accused of trying to sell top secret files to a foreign power for £2million. (Ex-MI6 agent appears in court charged with trying to sell top secret files )

Houghton, aged 25, was arrested at a London hotel in a sting operation.

A court has heard that Houghton, while in MI6, allegedly copied top-secret files from the domestic security service (presumably MI5) between September 2007 and May 2009.

Houghton's mother is Elizabeth Havinga and his older brother is called Aren.

It was reported that Elizabeth Havinga lives with Surgeon Vice-Admiral Sir John Rawlins. (Devon ex-spy, 25, accused of trying to sell secrets )

Elizabeth Havinga lives near Plymouth, where the navy has a base.

Houghton was born in Holland.

Houghton's American flatmate, Kimberly Peterson, 27, said Houghton told people he worked for Lloyds Bank.



In 1961, a Jewish spy ring was arrested in London.

A key member of the ring was Henry Frederick Houghton who worked at the Admiralty Underwater Weapons Establishment at Portland.

Other members of the ring were Ethel Elizabeth Gee, Gordon Lonsdale (Konon Molody), and Morris and Lona Cohen (aka the Krogers).
