A 52-year-old American construction worker armed with a sword and pistol, and apparently on a one-man mission to kill Osama bin Laden, has been arrested by Pakistani police. Californian Gary Faulkner was detained in Pakistan's Brumboret Valley near the border with Afghanistan and is being questioned by police in Peshawar, the central city of the lawless border territories where bin Laden and the core of his al-Qaida terrorist network are believed to be hiding out. Police say Faulkner has told them he was hunting for bin Laden because he wanted to avenge victims of the September 2001 attacks on New York and Washington Faulkner planned to cross into Afghanistan's Nuristan province in his hunt for bin Laden, police say. The American arrived in the northwestern town of Chitral on June 3rd and stayed in a hotel in the Brumboret Valley, a favourite destination for foreign tourists. This was Faulkner's third trip to the region in five years. He was, apparently, assigned security guards, a common protection for foreigners staying in remote parts of Pakistan.
