STEPHEN HAWKING GETS IT WRONG?

Stephen Hawking writes in his latest book The Grand Design:

"just as Darwin and Wallace explained how the apparently miraculous design of living forms could appear without intervention by a supreme being, the multiverse concept can explain the fine tuning of physical law without the need for a benevolent creator who made the Universe for our benefit." (Stephen Hawking: God was not needed to create the Universe )

Hawking appears to be wrong because:

1. Wallace believed in a spiritual world; he believed that some spiritual thing had helped along the process of evolution.

In a collection of essays, published in 1870, Wallace claimed that natural selection was not a strong enough process to have brought about the human race.

Wallace said you needed some kind of Supreme Intelligence. (aangirfan: Consciousness Outside the Body?)

2. It is possible that consciousness has always existed, and did not have a beginning.

Life as we know it would not exist if any one of several of the constants of physics were just slightly different.

Even if there are billions of universes, there is no guarantee that consciousness will evolve out of nothingness.

3. In 1931 Kurt Gödel published a paper that proved that a single Theory Of Everything is impossible.

Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem says: "Anything you can draw a circle around cannot explain itself without referring to something outside the circle – something you have to assume but cannot prove." (Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem)
