Vandalism costs the USA many hundreds of millions of dollars per year.



42% of all teen arrests in the USA are for vandalism.



1. Are the police sometimes responsible for the problem of vandalism?



A West Australian Labor MP, who fought for the release of a man subsequently found to have been wrongly convicted of murder, accused corrupt police of vandalising his Perth home. (MP blames vandalism on 'corrupt cops' )



2. Does the media sometimes promote criminal behaviour such as vandalism?

3. Do corrupt political systems promote vandalism?

Vandalism and anti-social behaviour go together.



Singapore has virtually no vandalism.



There may be three reasons for this:



1. The Singapore police are seen as being both efficient and strict.



In Singapore, a person who commits an act of vandalism is likely to be given 3 years in jail and may also be punished with caning.



Michael Fay was caned.



Michael Fay was born in St. Louis, Missouri.

His mother Randy divorced his father George when he was eight.

2. Television in Singapore, at least until recently, has been perceived to be less corrupting than in the USA and Europe.



3. Singapore is said to be one of the less corrupt countries and has put great effort into providing decent houses and transport for all. (The Top Ten: Least Corrupt Countries)

How different it is in Britain.



In the UK, Fiona Pilkington killed herself and her severely disabled daughter after suffering anti-social behaviour from local youths over a period of seven years.



The police were useless.

Alasdair Palmer and Julie Henry in the UK Sunday Telegraph, 26 Agust 2007, wrote about Why violent crime has doubled in a decade - Telegraph



David Fraser, a former UK probation officer and author of A Nation Fit for Criminals, is quoted as saying: "so few young criminals actually get sent to prison."







A Dutch newspaper has reported that the damage caused by 14 to 18-year-old vandals runs to millions of euros each year.



The paper refers to: "Slashing bus seats, graffiti, or the latest trend: cycling past a line of cars, kicking the wing mirrors off as they go. Between 30 and 50 percent of public transport vandalism is caused by youths in this age group". (Article: Press Review, Monday 25 January 2010)



A government study in Scotland has found that more than eight out of ten people believe antisocial behaviour such as vandalism is a big problem. (Antisocial behaviour a big problem say Scots‎)



Almost three-quarters said they had witnessed some form of antisocial behaviour in their area.

Vandalism and anti-social behaviour are linked to a country's culture.

Avoid Scotland, Wales and England, if you want to avoid drunken, drugged and disturbed children (British children: poorer, at greater risk and more insecure ...)



Britain is Rupert Murdoch country.



Children in the UK suffer:

1. greater deprivation,

2. worse relationships with their parents and

3. are exposed to more risks from alcohol, drugs and unsafe sex

In Dundee, in Scotland, 23 month old Brandon Muir died after suffering more than 40 injuries, including a ruptured intestine and four broken ribs.



Brandon's 'untended' grave is marked by a cheap plastic sign.

Heather Boyd, Brandon's mother, was a heroin addict, 'party girl' and prostitute.



Junkies regularly entered her flat to share drugs and booze.



Brandon slept on a bare mattress with no sheets.



Heather's father was in the military and her mother was a civil servant.

Heather Boyd's boyfriend was Robert Cunningham, a 23-year-old jobless heroin addict who has been linked to sex attacks on women.



Cunningham was Brandon Muir's 'killer'.

A former friend of Cunningham saw him throw a toddler so hard against a cot that it smashed.



"Another said she saw him blowing in the face of a newborn baby because he thought it was funny when the child struggled to catch a breath."



Another friend saw him throw a child against a table.



Reportedly, none of these people informed the police.



However, a police source said: "Cunningham is well known to our officers. He has been for some time and he is never far from trouble."

The British often seem uniquely nasty.



In Shropshire, in the UK, thirteen year old Dennis O'Neil was beaten to death by his foster father. He had been starved for months and weighed just four stone.



In Brighton, in the UK, seven year old Maria Colwell died after being starved and beaten by her stepfather. She had suffered brain damage, a fractured rib, black eyes, extensive external bruising and internal injuries.

In Brent, in the UK, four year old Jasmine Beckford was starved and battered to death by her stepfather.



In Lambeth in the UK, 21-month-old Tyra Henry died after being battered and bitten by her father.



In Greenwich in the UK, four year old Kimberley Carlile was starved and beaten to death.



In Nottinghamshire, three year old Leanne White was beaten to death by her stepfather.



And so it goes on.

In July 2000, Prime Minister Tony Blair's 16-year-old son Euan was arrested for being drunk and incapable.



He was found by police officers in Leicester Square, in the heart of London's West End, on his own at about 11pm.

In 2008, the Guardian reported that in the UK, "violent crime by young people has risen by nearly 40% in the past three years.

According to a study in 2000 by the OECD, British parents spend less time with their children compared to other nationalities, 'leaving them more open to influence from their peers and a commercially driven, celebrity-obsessed media'. (Britain's Out-of-Control Kids)



There is more crime in Britain.



1921 - 103,000 crimes recorded

1955 - 500,000 crimes recorded

2003 - 5,899,000 crimes recorded



Part of the problem is the 'culture' of Britain.

Youth crime in places like SINGAPORE, MALTA and BHUTAN used to be extremely rare and is still relatively rare.



The introduction of nasty films, and other media, may be changing things.



Crime figures in Singapore, Malta and Bhutan, although still lower than in Britain, tended to rise at the same time as horrid media material was introduced.
