Voltaire, like Buddha, could see that there is suffering in this world.



"Imagine the situation of a Pope's daughter aged fifteen, who in three months had undergone poverty and slavery, had been raped nearly every day, had seen her mother cut into four pieces, had undergone hunger and war, and was now dying of the plague in Algiers." (Voltaire, Candide, Chapter 12)



"Do you believe," said Candide, "that men have always massacred each other as they do to-day, that they have always been liars, cheats, traitors, ingrates, brigands, idiots, thieves, scoundrels, gluttons, drunkards, misers, envious, ambitious, bloody-minded, calumniators, debauchees, fanatics, hypocrites, and fools?"



"Do you believe," said Martin, "that hawks have always eaten pigeons when they have found them?"



Voltaire appears to be pessimistic about human nature; he might suggest that there will always be spooks and generals carrying out atrocities.



Indonesia was Buddhist for longer than it has been Moslem.



But, if hawks may not be capable of fast change, what about humans?



Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung (1875-1961) said in Memories, Dreams, Reflections:



"Natural history tells us of a haphazard and casual transformation of species over hundreds of millions of years of devouring and being devoured...



"But the history of the mind offers a different picture.



"Here the miracle of reflecting consciousness intervenes."



Physicist David Bohm believes that life and consciousness are present in varying degrees in all matter, including supposedly inanimate matter such as electrons or plasmas.

Happiness is about forgetting your own happiness and being part of a happy team?



Standford neurophysiologist Karl Pribram believes in the holographic nature of reality.



Every part of a hologram contains all the information possessed by the whole.



In a holographic universe there are no limits to the extent to which we can alter reality.



What we see as reality is a canvas where we can draw any picture we want.

Some people manage to be happy in spite of poverty.



The Buddhists believe that what we are thinking now, is what we will become.



Research has suggested that Buddhists are able to get their brains to feel happiness.



According to Owen Flanagan, professor of philosophy at Duke University in North Carolina, Buddhists appear to be able to stimulate a part of their brain which produces positive emotions and a feeling of well being.



Writing in New Scientist, Professor Flanagan referred to findings of a study by Richard Davidson, of the University of Wisconsin, who used scanners to analyse regions of a Buddhist's brain.



Parts of Buddhists brains, linked to happiness, appear to "light up" consistently.



"The most reasonable hypothesis is there is something about conscientious Buddhist practice that results in the kind of happiness we all seek," Davidson writes. (Happiness. A Buddhist perspective)

Happy lepers.

Helping unhappy people to be happy brings happiness.

A good doctor entering a ward full of sick children does not allow himself to feel depressed.

The good doctor gets on with trying to make the children happy.

Tibetan Bodhisattva Langri Tangpa wrote:

Whenever I see unfortunate beings

Oppressed by evil and violent suffering,

May I cherish them as I had found

A rare and precious treasure.

The good Buddhist empties himself (or herself) of egotism, and is therefore not going to be offended by insults.

When others out of jealousy



Harm me or insult me,



May I take defeat upon myself



And offer them the victory (The Buddhist Way To Happiness )

Strive for the happiness of the team, and not for your own happiness, and that will make you happy.

1. Learn how to save yourself by using direct and personal experience.



2. There is continual change, a continual cycle involving birth and death.



Consciousness is continuous.



It is forever looking for new kinds of self-expression.



Life is a continous flow.



If you know there is a tsunami coming, don't stay on the beach guarding your possessions.



If you cling on to things, you will suffer, because you are resisting the flow.



3. There is only one 'ultimate reality'.



It does not change.



It is beyond our understanding.



We are all linked to it.



We are all part of the one team.



4. What we are now is the result of our past thoughts.



We are the creator of our circumstances.



By right thought and right action we can gradually purify ourselves and eventually reach enlightenment and Nirvana and beyond.



5. We are happiest as a happy team.



We are all inter-linked and should feel compassion for everything from trees to Thais and from jaguars to Jews.



Compassion is the "Law of laws".



6. Imagine we have an urge to win at golf by cheating.



Imagine we have an urge to be the hero of the football match, by monopolising the ball.



Suffering is caused by such wrong urges.



7. To end suffering, we should have

(2) Right Aims or Motives,



(3) Right Speech,



(4) Right Acts,



(5) Right Livelihood,



(6) Right Effort,



(7) Right Concentration or mind-development,



(8) "Cease to do evil, learn to do good, cleanse your own heart: this is the Teaching of the Buddhas".



8. Nirvana, the extinction of the limitations of selfhood, is attainable on earth.

9. Follow the path between the opposites, avoiding all extremes.



10. Meditation helps us to refrain from mental and emotional attachment to "the passing show".



11. The Buddha said: "Work out your own salvation" using your intuition.



Each man suffers the consequences of his own acts, and learns thereby, while helping his fellow man to the same deliverance.



12. Buddhism does not deny the existence of God or soul, though it places its own meaning on these terms. Buddhism has no dogmas, and points to man alone as the creator of his present life and sole designer of his destiny.

THE CLASSIC MOSLEM CLERIC

The Moslem cleric Abdurrahman Wahid, also known as Gus Dur, headed the world's biggest Moslem organisation, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).

Wahid also became president of the world's biggest Moslem country, Indonesia.

Wahid loved jazz, football, European and American movies, and democracy.

He worked as a journalist for the prestigious Tempo news magazine.

As Chairman of NU, Wahid was successful in increasing the quality of the pesantren (Moslem schools).

Wahid supported religious tolerance and moderate liberal ideas.



Wahid accepted an invitation to visit Israel in 1994.[19]

Wahid was president of Indonesia from 1999-2001.

He promoted free speech and human rights.

He defended British author Salman Rushdie.

He visited East Timor and apologized for human rights abuses committed by Indonesian forces during their American backed occupation.

Wahid knew that the Moslem militants were linked to the American trained military. Fundamentalist Islam is a tool to keep the rich elite in power.

Back in the 1960s, the CIA had arranged for the Indonesian military to be put into power in Indonesia.

When he became President, Wahid sought to reform the military and end the control of Indonesian institutions by the American trained generals.

Wahid found an ally in Agus Wirahadikusumah who was made Commander of the powerful Kostrad regiment.

Agus began uncovering a financial scandal linked to Kostrad.

Agus then died rather suddenly!

The military wanted Wahid removed from the presidency and began to stir up trouble.

In the year 2000, there was trouble in part of Indonesia called Maluku.

The Indonesian military set up a Moslem militia called Laskar Jihad (similar to the CIA's al Qaeda)

Laskar Jihad was transported to Maluku by the military.

Wahid had ordered the military to block Laskar Jihad from going to Maluku[40]

Laskar Jihad were being financed by Fuad Bawazier, the last Minister of Finance to have served under Suharto.

Most Moslems are hospitable and moderate. The fundamentalists are promoted by the CIA as a way of keeping Moslems weak.

There was trouble in West Papua.

Wahid wanted to follow a policy of moderation. This was opposed by the military and its alleged puppets, such as Megawati, in other political parties.

On 24 December 2000, there were attacks directed against churches in Jakarta and in eight cities across Indonesia.

It is suspected that the American trained Indonesian military were behind the attacks.

Wahid was forced out of office.

Wahid discussed his suspicions regarding the involvement of the Indonesian police and military in the Bali Bombings, in an interview in the documentary Inside Indonesia's War on Terrorism which was aired by SBS Dateline on October 12, 2005.

Wahid was saying in 2005 of the Bali bombings: "The orders to do this or that came from within our armed forces... There is not a single Islamic group ... that is not controlled by (Indonesian) intelligence."

Indonesia's intelligence services are said to work closely with the CIA.

Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) was blamed.

However, in February 2001, the respected Indonesian newsweekly Tempo published a cover story suggesting links between the bombings and the Indonesian military, the TNI.

The article pointed out that Edi Sugiarto, who was quickly arrested and confessed to assembling 15 of the bombs used in the town of Medan, has long run a car repair shop in the province of Aceh, where a separatist group named GAM has been fighting for many years.

Members of TNI and Indonesia’s special forces, Kopassus, regularly went to his shop for repairs and just to hang out.

As a result, GAM claimed he was a TNI lackey and burned down his shop and house in 1997.

Phone records also indicated that Sugiarto called Fauzi Hasbi seven times before the bombings.

Hasbi is a leader of JI, but Tempo outed him as an Indonesian government mole.

In 2005, two years after Hasbi’s death, the Australian television program SBS Dateline provided additional evidence of Hasbi’s long-time links to the TNI.

Fasbi also called Jacob Tanwijaya, a businessman well connected with the TNI, 35 times.

1. In 1945, at Princeton, in the USA, John von Neumann and other scientists discussed the idea of modifying weather.

Soviet harvests, for example, could be ruined by creating a drought.

2. The US military involved itself in research into climate and environmental warfare.

3. Irving Langmuir and his team at General Electric had the idea of seeding clouds with particles, that would make raindrops. Langmuir had the support of the military.

In 1971 a group of American experts said that "deliberate measures to induce arctic sea ice melting might prove successful and might prove difficult to reverse should they have undesirable side effects."

8. A 1972 U.S. government rain-making operation in South Dakota was followed by a disastrous flood.

HAARP - is being used to create tsunamis and carry out mind control?



The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is funded by the US Air Force, the US Navy, the University of Alaska, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).[1]

Reportedly, its purpose is to investigate the ionosphere and establish whether some of its properties can be used for communication or surveillance purposes.[2]

CHRISTMAS JET BOMB, BERNARD LEWIS & THE CLASH OF CIVILISATIONS

Al Qaeda, run by the CIA and its friends, announced on 28 December 2009 that they were behind the Christmas jet bomb plot.

The CIA said it provided Nigerian Abdul Abulbul with a 'device' but it had failed to detonate because it was not meant to.

A statement posted on CIA-Islamist websites said the attack was to help justify US intervention in Yemen.

The US hopes to counter Russian and Chinese influence in Yemen, and hopes to balkanise Saudi Arabia.

The CIA-Islamist website showed a picture of Abdul referring to him as Patsy al-Nigiri - the Nigerian patsy.

'With the cooperation of Israeli security firms in Amsterdam, he managed to penetrate all devices and modern advanced technology and security checkpoints in international airports bravely without fear of death,' said the website statement.

The 23-year-old has told the FBI he was tutored in terrorism while living for a month with a senior CIA commander in Yemen.

He is said to have warned that other young men are being trained there to advance the cause of US imperialism.

President Barack Obama said: 'We will continue to use every element of our national power to balkanise strategically important Moslem countries.'

In London, Home Secretary Alan Johnson said police were examining whether the son of one of Africa's richest men had been recruited as a patsy by MI5 or MI6 during three years studying engineering at University College London.

The Nigerian is reported to have 'crossed the radar' of MI5 while in the UK.

Abdul Abulbul was on a U.S. watch list, although it allowed him to travel on planes flying into the country.

How did Abdul Abulbul obtain a U.S. visa when he had been on an American watch-list of people with known terrorist connections?

But the deeper and more urgent issue for Britain concerns the key role Britain has once again played in the Pentagon's plans for world domination.

Abdul Abulbul, who claims to have been working for the CIA, was a student at a University in London for three years until 2008.

He was refused an entry visa to Britain earlier in 2009, but only because the institution at which he said he wanted to study turned out to be non-existent.

How, people might well ask, could such a radical have been educated in Britain without the authorities jumping on him?

Presumably he had been recruited by MI5 as a patsy.

Who can be surprised? After all, this is ' Londonistan' - the term coined by the French spooks back in the Nineties as they watched Britain become the central hub of CIA-Islamic terrorism in Europe.

Radicals flocked to the UK, attracted by Britain's toxic lax immigration controls.

CIA-Islamic extremist networks are still allowed to flourish in Britain, largely due to the governing class with its fascist and mafia agenda.

The courts are still refusing to deport terrorists who work for the security services.

London boasts the shameful reputation of the world's top money-laundry for CIA terrorism.

Yet the government refuses to outlaw Hizb ut-Tahrir.

The Government is funnelling money into extremist Islamist groups.

'Authentic' Islam is peaceful.

But the CIA plan is to weaken oil rich Moslem countries by promoting extremism and feudalism.

Who are the real bad guys?

The following was not written by the New York Times about 'the clash of civilisations':

It used to be the rogue state of Israel that was involved in a clash with liberals and democrats in the West.

Why was there a clash?

1. The Israelis had used terror to drive the Arabs off their land.

2. Some of the Israelis were religious fundamentalists with 'weird, outdated beliefs'.

But, certain clever people in the USA have managed to change the story.

Now the clash is supposed to be between the 'mad Moslems' on the one side and the western liberals and democrats on the other.

How has the Pentagon and the CIA, together with its friends in Israel, managed to stir a clash between Moslems and the West?

1. Has the CIA/Pentagon given its support to Islamic fundamentalists in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Afghanistan?

2. Has the CIA/Pentagon/Mossad infiltrated fundamentalist Christianity and allied it to Zionism?

3. Have certain western politicians allowed large numbers of poorly educated Moslem illegal-immigrants to enter certain western countries?

4. Did the CIA/Pentagon recruit Osama bin Laden and people like Mohamed Atta?

5. Have some ignorant Moslems been recruited by certain security services to take part part in various dubious activities?

6. Has a 'Jewish influenced' media stirred up trouble between Christians and Moslems?

7. Have large numbers of Moslems allowed themselves to be brain-washed and manipulated?

It is our impression, after visiting half a dozen Moslem countries, that the great majority of Moslems are moderate, tolerant, hospitable people.

Moderation, tolerance and hospitality can evaporate under pressure.

The Palestinians have had their land stolen and their children murdered - hence the vote for Hamas. Most Palestinians are not fundamentalists!

The CIA gave Iran the dictatorship of the Shah and then the dictatorship of the Ayatollahs.

The Iraqis had the CIA agent Saddam Hussein imposed on them and then they had their country manipulated into a war against Iran. More recently, a relatively secular Iraq has become a more fundamentalist Iraq.

The CIA has helped keep pro-western governments in power in Morocco and Algeria. This has encouraged moderate Moslems to turn to fundamentalist politicians.

The Americans have kept the Saudi monarchy in power.

The CIA toppled Indonesia's Sukarno and Suharto.

If you watch the media carefully you begin to notice the pattern of brainwashing:

Lewis, born in London in 1916, is a historian and 'expert' on Islam.

In 1974, Lewis accepted a position at Princeton University.

In 1990, Lewis wrote an essay entitled The Roots of Muslim Rage.

In this essay, Lewis argued that the struggle between the West and Islam was gathering strength.

In this essay Lewis invented the phrase "clash of civilizations", which got mentioned in the book by Samuel Huntington.^[13]

Typical Moslems - friendly, easy going and hospitable.

The phrase "clash of civilizations", was first used by Lewis at a meeting in Washington in 1957. ^[14]

There has been speculation that Lewis, the intelligence services and people like Brzezinski want to make the Moslem world look bad, so that it can be more easily controlled and exploited.

Much of the world's oil lies in Moslem lands.

How do you make Moslems look bad?

You can finance the extremists and help them into power.

You can carry out false flag operations.

Bernard Lewis argues (Bernard Lewis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) that the Middle East is backward due to its culture and religion.

The alternative view is that a country like Iraq is backward partly because of constant interference by countries such as Britain and the USA.

In his 1982 book Muslim Discovery of Europe, Lewis claims that "Crusader successes were due in no small part to Muslim weakness."

What Lewis does not make clear is that the Crusaders were barbarians and that they slaughtered innocent people wherever they went. The Fourth Crusade invaded and conquered and looted the Christian city of Constantinople.

Lewis opposes the idea that Israel is a racist country.

He argues that Moslems behaved badly in the Algerian civil war (1992–98) and in the Iran-Iraq War (1980–88).

Lewis states quite correctly:

1."At no time did the (Muslim) jurist approve of terrorism. Nor indeed is there any evidence of the use of terrorism (in Islamic tradition)."

2."Muslims are commanded not to kill women, children, or the aged; not to torture or otherwise ill-treat prisoners; to give fair warning of the opening of hostilities; and to honor agreements."

3."Terrorism ... has no antecedents in Islamic history, and no justification in terms of Islamic theology, law, or tradition...

4."The fanatical warrior offering his victims the choice of the Koran or the sword is not only untrue, it is impossible."

5."Generally speaking, Muslim tolerance of unbelievers was far better than anything available in Christendom."

So, where did terrorism come from?

Lewis seeks closer Western ties with Israel.

In his essay "A License to Kill", Lewis wrote that he considered bin Laden's language as the "ideology of jihad".

Lewis has clashed with Edward W. Said, the Palestinian-American scholar who is a professor at Columbia University.

In Al-Ahram Weekly, Said claimed "Bernard Lewis hasn't set foot in the Middle East, in the Arab world, for at least 40 years.

"He knows something about Turkey, I'm told, but he knows nothing about the Arab world." ("Resources of hope,")

Edward Said considered that Lewis failed to see Moslems as a whole lot of different sorts of people.

In a 2002 interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Noam Chomsky claimed that Lewis failed to point out that "there's a perception in (the Middle east) that the United States supports status quo governments, which prevent democracy and development" and that this has to do with Middle East oil. Lewis supported the Iraq War.

In a 2006 article for the "Wall Street Journal" Lewis asserted that Iran was working on a nuclear weapon.

A suicide bomber has blown himself up in Karachi. The attack happened during a procession of Shia Muslims on their holiest day. Mobs unleashed their anger after the blast, setting ablaze buildings, shops and cars, and attacked local police. Paramilitary forces have since taken control of central Karachi, and officials are appealing for calm, but already 40 people are dead, and more than 100 others injured.

Bomber hits Karachi procession

At least 30 people have been killed after a suicide bomber struck a procession of Shia Muslims in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, according to police sources. The explosion struck on Monday as Shia worshippers marked Ashoura, the holiest event on the Shia Muslim calendar. Police sources told  that at least 80 people were injured in the blast, with many of those in a critical condition. The attack sparked riots in Karachi with angry mourners throwing stones at ambulances, torching cars and shops and firing bullets into the air. "A deliberate attempt seems to be afoot by the extremists to turn the fight against militants into a sectarian clash and make the people fight against one another," Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan's president, said in a statement. The Pakistan Rangers, a paramilitary force, took control of several restive areas of Karachi after the blast, officials said. "People have been saying that the government has been apathetic to the listening to the warnings of potential attacks and people's fears," Talat Hussain, the director of news at the local  TV. "Any number of groups come to mind who may have carried out the attack ... The game clearly is to disrupt Pakistan." Rehman Malik, the interior minister, called for people to show restraint and asked that Shia processions over the next two days be cancelled following the attack. Bomber tackled Major Aurangzeb Khan, a spokesman for the paramilitary troops who were protecting the procession, said the death toll would have been much higher if one of the soldiers had not spotted the suicide bomber and tackled him. "He just took him down, and the bomber detonated himself," he said. Authorities found the intact head and torso of the suicide bomber on the third floor of a nearby office building, where it had broken through a window, Munir Sheikh, a bomb disposal squad official, said. About 16kg of high explosive were used in the bombing, he said. Pakistan had tightened security to protect mass processions ahead of Ashoura, deploying tens of thousands of police and paramilitary forces. The attack in Karachi was the third on the commemorations in Pakistan this year. A suicide attack at a Shiite mosque in Pakistani-administered Kashmir on Sunday killed seven people, while wxplosives wounded 17 people in Karachi on the same day.

At least 33 people have been killed after a bomb blast struck a procession of Shia Muslims in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, according to police sources. The explosion struck on Monday as Shia worshippers marked Ashoura, the holiest event on the Shia Muslim calendar. Police sources told  that at least 50 people were injured in the blast, with many of those in a critical condition. The cause of the blast was not immediately clear. "We are trying to ascertain whether it was a time bomb or a suicide attack, but it is a terrorist attack," Abdul Wahid Khan, a senior police official, was quoted by the Reuters news agency as saying. The Pakistan Rangers, a paramilitary force, has taken over responsibility for restive areas of Karachi, officials said. Television footage showed crowds around the blast area, smoke rising over the scene and ambulances going back and forth. Some people in the crowd, apparently angered at the attack, fired shots into the air, witnesses said.

Taliban have expanded influence across Afghanistan: NATO

The Afghan Taliban have expanded their influence across Afghanistan and are now running a 'full-fledged insurgency’ with their own 'governors’ in all but one of the country’s provinces, a senior North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) intelligence official said. "Time is running out. We’ve got about a year to prove that our strategy can actually work. The Taliban has shadow governors in 33 out of the 34 provinces," the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told a small group of reporters. "So he (the Taliban) has got a government-in-waiting. He has got ministers," he added. Violence in Afghanistan has reached some of its highest levels in the eight-year war and the United States President Barack Obama is sending in 30,000 extra troops as part of his new war strategy, to try to turn the tide. Other NATO countries are sending some 7,000 more. But Washington’s plan also calls for US troop levels to be scaled down from 2011 and the White House has said the United States will not be in Afghanistan in eight or nine years’ time. The Taliban are willing to wait. "The insurgency is confident and are looking towards a post-ISAF Afghanistan," he said, referring to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force. "If we are going to be successful, this has to be perceived as an international effort, almost a struggle, and it is a struggle, to stop or deter this notion of Islamic extremism." There are already around 110,000 foreign troops in Afghanistan but despite the numbers, they are locked in a stalemate with the Taliban, unable to stem the rising tide of suicide and roadside bomb attacks. With the improvised explosive device (IED) or roadside bomb, the Taliban have found their weapon of choice against the foreign troops, the official said, adding 'kinetic’ events had risen by 300 percent since 2007. The official said in 2003, foreign forces dealt with 81 IEDs, that figure rose to over 7,200 for 2009. This figure includes IEDs that had exploded and those that were found and cleared. "This is not meant to be a joke, but whoever is their logistics chief, you know, we ought to be taking lessons from them. Because that’s pretty good for an enemy insurgent force to generate that kind of capability," the official said. Foreign troop casualties are at their highest since the war began and public support is waning. More than 1,500 soldiers have died in Afghanistan since the war started in late 2001 and twice as many Americans have died so far this year compared to 2008.

Pakistan Is Rocked by a Spate of Attacks

A handful of deadly attacks ravaged parts of Pakistan this weekend and highlighted the multiple security challenges confronting the embattled Islamabad government, from violent vendettas by Taliban militants to sectarian violence against minority Shiites. The bloodiest attack happened Sunday in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani-controlled Kashmir in the north of the country, where a suicide bomber killed at least 10 people and wounded more than 80 during a Shiite religious procession. The attack could have been worse, the local authorities said: the bomber had been trying to enter a prayer hall but blew himself up when guards blocked him. Pakistani troops were rushed in to restore order. More than a dozen people were wounded in Karachi the day before by a small bomb. Both attacks appeared directed at Shiites observing Ashura, which commemorates the death of Imam Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, in A.D. 680. The identities of the attackers were not clear, but the country’s Shiites, one-fifth of the population, continue to be the targets of Sunni extremists. Past Shiite holidays have been singled out by sectarian militants, leading Pakistani security forces to deploy tens of thousands to protect Ashura marchers this year. The Kashmir attack followed the assassination on Sunday of a mid-level political administrator named Sarfaraz Khan and his family in the Kurram tribal area near the Afghan border. Taliban militants detonated a bomb at Mr. Khan’s home, killing him, his wife and four of his children, the local authorities said. The attack appeared to be retribution for the Pakistani military’s bombing and helicopter strafing of Taliban hide-outs in Kurram and the neighboring tribal area, Orakzai, a stronghold of Pakistani Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud, whose fighters seized control of Orakzai last year and instituted strict Islamic laws. One of his wives is also from Orakzai. Taliban fighters took positions in Kurram and Orakzai after fleeing a Pakistani offensive in the South Waziristan tribal area this fall, Pakistani intelligence and military officials say. Skirmishes are now routine. In a telephone interview, a Pakistani security official said that Pakistani jets killed six Orakzai militants during a bombing run on Sunday while Taliban guerrillas battled state-sponsored Lashkar tribal militiamen in southern Orakzai. Nine Taliban militants and eight militiamen have died so far in that battle, which was still happening late Sunday, he said. The South Waziristan offensive prompted Taliban commanders to intensify attacks in large cities and in the country’s interior. The military says it is throwing resources into killing militants who attack population centers. But Pakistani officials have refused American demands to drive out militants in North Waziristan, including networks controlled by Sirajuddin Haqqani, who are battling American troops across the border in Afghanistan. Such action is seen as crucial to President Obama’s recent order to send 30,000 additional American troops into Afghanistan. American forces are using drones and powerful missiles to attack those militants. The death toll for the latest drone strike, which occurred Saturday evening, has soared to 13, the Pakistani security official and a Pakistani intelligence officer said in interviews on Sunday. That attack, in Saidgai village in North Waziristan, killed seven foreign militants and six local fighters, the Pakistani security official said. Two missiles struck the compound of a man known as Asmatullah, he said. The intelligence official confirmed the number of dead at 13 but said he did not know their identities.
